We’ve all been there, furiously scrubbing at a stain that just refuses to budge. It doesn’t have to be so elbow-achingly hard. If you do your research well enough, you’ll be able to pick out which stain removers on the market work best for different types of stains.

However, spending your free time laboriously reading up about stain removal probably isn’t how you want to spend your precious free time. That’s why we’ve done it for you.

Best for: wine

Wine stains are notoriously hard to get rid of and you’ve likely discarded many a blouse or tea towel after a spilling a glass of red that no amount of furious scrubbing would make disappear. That’s where ‘Wine Away’ comes in.

Able to tackle both wet and dry stains, Divertimenti’s Wine Away works almost instantaneously to get rid of stains before your very eyes. You don’t even need to treat the stain with anything else beforehand. Simply spray the solution (made from a blend of fruit and vegetable extracts) on the stain, leave for a few minutes, and then wipe clean.

For a high performance all round stain remover, this spray from De-Solv-It should do the trick. It’s particular effective against tricky to remove grease based stains.

Vanish Gold Powergel Pre-Treat Stain Remover – £4

This remover from Vanish is great for getting rid of annoying make-up stains. Able to remove mascara and foundation stains in just a few minutes, simply rub the head over the stained area, wait for a minute or two, and wash clean.

If you’re in a hurry and need to remove a stain without water, the K2r stain remover spray will get the job done. Simply spray on the stained area and wipe clean – works great on fabrics, upholstery, and carpets.
